9 June 1942 [3] I was walking along Smocza Street today around 10 a.m. when I heard a blast near the corner of Nowolipki Street. Initially I thought that a rickshaw tire had burst, but [. . .] I was swept away by a crowd of people fleeing in panic. I dove into the closest store and then heard another crack. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a young man collapse. I found out the rest after I had left the store. Some young men had confiscated more than a thousand kg of potatoes from a large storeroom. In [. . .] the young men’s truck fired 2 shots without warning, wounding two people. [. . .]. Suddenly, one of them fired a few shots from a rifle held across the steering wheel, wounding a boy who was carrying a basket of bread.
At about 7 p.m. two gendarmes suddenly appeared along the ghetto wall at the mouth of Pańska Street (where the house numbers are high) and killed two smugglers.
A post was set up on the roof of a six-storey building on the Aryan side, on the corner of Wielka and Pańska Streets. An armed gendarme was placed there. Today around 8 p.m. he unexpectedly opened fire at the Jewish side, killing a pedestrian, [4] who was walking out of the gate [. . .]
[5] [. . .] and they managed to kill the last of the fleeing people—a youth, aged 19—with a burst of about a dozen bullets. Obviously, the unfortunate boy died on the spot.
