Yesterday the ghetto received a transport of Gypsies. I cannot say how many there are. Purportedly over 2,000. They wear white armbands with the red letter “Z.”218 For now they have been accommodated at Pokorna Street 5. I heard that they are to move to Wołyńska Street, which the Germans will clear of Jews for them. Today the Gypsies went out onto [6] the streets of the ghetto, causing a general sensation. I saw two Gypsy women followed by a crowd of children and a few Gypsy men surrounded by a crowd of gawkers and onlookers. Their clothes are rugged and they speak German. The Gypsy women immediately got down to their customary occupation, that is, telling fortunes and begging for money. Purportedly some are already begging for alms in courtyards. Germans collect Gypsies from the entire Reich and bring them here.

Today between 2 and 3 p.m. a gendarme standing at the corner of Leszno and Żelazna streets shot an eight-year-old girl who wanted to walk past the wacha carrying a few kg of potatoes. The girl was taken to a hospital by rickshaw, accompanied by her mother, all in tears.

I was passing the gate on Nalewki Street at 7 p.m. On the corner of Śto-Jerska and Nalewki streets I saw a group of 6−7 Jewish children, about 10 years old, waiting on the Aryan side with stuffed [7] pockets, trousers, and bags. They were scared but they must have sensed that the gendarme guarding the gate was not a bad man. Otherwise they would not have gotten so close to him.
