we had to wait for the change of guard, which took place every two hours, as what one gendarme did not accept, another one did. We spent many an hour in the cold, rain, and wind in order to get to the quarantine and to give our wards a long-awaited slice of bread.


Report for 4 April 1941


778 deportees in isolation.

No bread.

Centos gave us 5 kg of groats, [60] while ŻTOS provided 100 kg of bread. 830 rations of bread with marmalade were distributed. Plus an additional 2 kg of bread. The total amount of bread distributed was 69 kg. 31 kg of bread remains for today.


Daily report for 5 April 1941


31 kg of bread. 778 deportees in isolation. The children received 290 rations of cream of wheat with milk provided by Centos. Today we received 120 kg of bread from ŻTOS. We distributed it among the deportees in isolation.

Today we had an inspection by the representatives of the Department of Information Service of ŻTOS: Mr Braun285 and Mr Rotner.286 After they had confirmed that the deportees in isolation were in very bad condition they promised to intervene with the appropriate circles of ŻTOS. We purchased rutabagas and carrots for [61] 147 zlotys and barley groats for 100 zlotys from the Care Section purse and we distributed 945 rations of bread with marmalade. 32 kg of bread remaining for tomorrow.
