TORAH (Hebrew: teaching, law)—the first five books of the Bible (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy), codified approximately in the seventh century B.C.E.; the name is also used to refer to the Rodale, which is the scroll of the Pentateuch written on parchment.

YOM KIPPUR (Hebrew: Day of Atonement)—a holiday of penance, taking place on the 10th day of the month of Tishri (September/October), concluding the celebration of the Jewish New Year.
