power of the invincible Red Army, is that Russia will defeat both the Nazi and the democratic states simultaneously due to the brilliant foreign policy of Molotov, who sets the two camps against each other and helps both sides continue the war so that they keep murdering each other for as long as possible and with as much energy as possible, for where two dogs fight for a bone, a third runs away with it.

This is why there is so much information in the press about the losses, destructions, ruins, hunger, and bombardment of European towns and cities. Meanwhile, the Soviet Union is preparing at full speed: all factories are operating 24 hours a day, a new tightened work code has been created, and all white-collar and blue-collar workers without exceptions have been militarised.

The work week has been extended from five to six days and the work day from six to eight hours. All employees are punished for lateness, absence, disobedience, or carelessness with salary reduction, imprisonment or deportation “to the eastern oblasts of the Soviet Union”. The young have become obliged to graduate from special schools and everybody has been organised in the OPL. Everybody is talking with great certainty, pride, and conceit, but fear of Germans is evident in these declarations of strength, power, quantity, and technology. Everybody believes in the German aggressive spirit and victory with such pagan awe and fearful admiration that it sometimes seems that these screams, propaganda, and declarations of Soviet power are the people’s attempt at consoling themselves. Their loud words, agitation, and reasonable arguments about numbers are to shout down and ease their very deep, lasting, subconscious concern about the future of the Soviet Union in the case of a German invasion or – God forbid – in the case of Germany’s reconciliation with England. Indeed, the people feel extremely isolated. They feel that the entire world is against them, that they have isolated themselves
