the moreh hora’ah⁵⁷⁵ and the local rebbe, and all three were hanged in the
marketplace.⁵⁷⁶
News is coming in from Łuków and Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski (near
Kielce)⁵⁷⁷ that massacres of Jews took place there between 26 April and 1 May.
For the time being, there are no details.⁵⁷⁸
Wisłowiec (near Lublin)⁵⁷⁹ – On Thursday 23 April the whole shtetl was surrounded
by SS men. They took all the men, as well as women and youths aged
12 to 60 and sent them to labour camps in the vicinity. They left only women
who had young children in their care.
Kraśnik⁵⁸⁰ – On one of the days of Pesach, the German gendarmes assembled
the whole Jewish population of the shtetl in the marketplace: men, women
and children. Then they divided the assembled Jews into two groups: those
working for the Germans and those not employed by the Germans. In the second
group were more than 400 people (men, women and children), and the
Germans began to drive them, with the utmost brutality, to the railway station.
Those who lagged behind on the way were shot immediately. There were
several dozen victims.⁵⁸¹
[5] Dubienka (on the Bug)⁵⁸² – On Monday 13 April the shtetl was surrounded
by SS men, and a mass slaughter of the Jewish population ensued. Jews who
managed to hide saved themselves; the others were shot on the spot or sent to
various labour camps. Jews seized on the way in the surrounding area were
