of sheer bliss. Let it be stressed that this act was perpetrated by German civilians
(neither the SS or Wehrmacht).
The third event took place in the camp in Karczew, where Luppschau⁷⁴⁹ –
the infamous commander of the gendarmerie in Rembertów – executed one
of the Jewish camp prisoners. What is characteristic of this event is not the
fact that Jewish labourers were murdered, but the circumstances surrounding
that event, as prior to the execution the murderer gave a highly antisemitic
speech. Each delinquent had to undress and assume a position convenient for
the murderer. All the Jewish labourers were forced to assist at the execution
and then circle the corpse of the murdered man and spit on it. During that
show Luppschau kept his foot on his victims’ smashed head.
Every day Warsaw receives more and more human wrecks, that is, the
Jewish labour force working for the cruellest thugs of all times – the “victorious”
German Army.
Jews captured on the Aryan side of Warsaw are brought into the ghetto
almost every day. For example, on 6 December the number of such “criminals”
escorted to the Befehlstelle⁷⁵⁰ at Żelazna Street 103 (SS headquarters
for the Warsaw ghetto) and then transferred to the Jewish district
amounted to approximately 200 people. On 12 December, 36 Jews were transferred
to the ghetto. Their crowding in is in progress. Police agents keep capturing
more and more Jews or people of Jewish origin staying outside the
ghetto. Under threat of immediate execution the latter are forced to leave
their homes, after which they are rushed into the ghetto without clothes
or bedding.
[30] In contrast to the “liberal” policy of the SS towards such criminals,
it should be stressed that in the provinces of the “General Government” this
practice has assumed truly tragic forms. It is the case particularly in the
Kraków District, where roundups of “illegal” Jews are organised in villages
in the form of round-ups with dogs. The captured “game”, mostly women and
children, are then escorted to the nearest town, where they are publicly executed
in the local Jewish cemetery. The following may serve as an example of
this German practice. On 5 December this year an execution was conducted in
749 I.e. Karl Liebscher, see above.
750 (Ger.) Command headquarters. During the 1942 Aktion it was the seat of the German command called the Resettlement Office.
