What for? This November the German management of Treblinka introduced
the following innovation: before undressing all women have their hair
cut and the hair is packed into sacks.
Unfortunately. Many Jewish escapees from Treblinka do not reach
their destination because the local peasants capture most of the encountered
Jews and then either rob them of everything and let them go or tie them up
and send them back to Treblinka, where they finish their life in horrible
agony.
The liquidation of Jews in the Ciechanów district. The final pogrom
of the remaining Jewish settlements in the Ciechanów district began on
23 November and ended on 16 December this year.
The liquidation affected approximately 25,000 Jews as presented below:
Nowy Dwór (including Jews from from Czerwińsk) 6, 000 people
Płońsk (including Jews from from Nowe Miasto 8, 000 people
Ciechanów 5, 000 people
Mława 6, 000 people
All Jews from the said towns, except for approximately 300 Jews from
Mława, were resettled to die in execution sites in Szczawnica or Oświęcim.⁷⁵⁷
The resettlement passed quietly and peacefully. As they usually do, the
Germans officially assured the Judenrats of the said towns that “of course”
the resettlement would affect only refugees and the unemployed and that all
of the resettled would be sent to work. A passenger train arrived to transport
the “resettled”.
Below are quoted a few letters sent the day before or on the day of the
“resettlement”:
Płońsk, 13 December 1942
Our Dearest Róża,
Unfortunately, I do not know if we will manage to do something to see
you, our one and only. Your advice to hide is not possible here. We are rather
aware of what, unfortunately, awaits us. Perhaps we will also be among the
chosen ones and they will send us to work. Why, one should not lose hope.
We hope that God will not punish us so severely. He has already taken from
