Further liquidation of the Jewish centres. On Thursday, 8 January,
a 40-wagon train transporting the remainder of the Jewish population
(approximately 60,000 people) of Końskie, Skarżysko, Opoczno, Tomaszów
Mazowiecki, and Ujazd passed through Warsaw on its way to Treblinka.
Szydłowiec. All Jews from Szydłowiec were “resettled” at the end of last
week.
Vilna. At the beginning of January this year a train with Jews deported
from Vilna was seen at the Eastern Railway Station in Warsaw. The Jewish
labourers working in Vilna were told by the Germans that they were heading
for Upper Silesia, where they would be provided with employment – employment
at the site of murder in Oświęcim or Szczawnica.⁷⁹⁸
Treblinka. Another macabre German idea: Music in Treblinka.
We provide the following fact as yet another piece of evidence for German
cynicism in the Treblinka site of murder. The parade of naked men and women
heading for the steam chambers is often accompanied by a Jewish band, which
plays various lively Jewish melodies and cheerful marches. Not long ago performances
of Salwe,⁷⁹⁹ an artist and a poetry reciter popular in the Warsaw
ghetto, were still held at the local quarters of the German camp personnel.
[68] German perfidy [in] Radom-Opoczno. Last week another “resettlement”
campaign was conducted in Radom. Over 1,000 people were “deported”,
while the 1,200 Jews who had registered last week for departure to Palestine
were allowed to stay.
The “resettlement” from Opoczno was conducted simultaneously. The
SS-men assured their victims that they were leaving for Palestine and even
helped them load their baggage into the boxcars.
Mińsk Mazowiecki. On the “occasion” of Christmas the Germans from
Mińsk Mazowiecki conducted a massacre of Jewish camp prisoners. After
numerous and thorough “resettlements”, only one Jewish detail of more than
300 labourers remained in Mińsk Mazowiecki. On 24 December 1942 the
Germans dragged out 218 Jews and shot all of them in the local Jewish cemetery.
15 Jewish camp prisoners from Fort Wola in Warsaw, who were especially
brought to Mińsk Mazowiecki, were used as gravediggers. Some of the
Jews hid in the nearby forests.

798 The reference to a place or perhaps a camp remains unclear. Cf. above.
799 Izaak Salwe – actor at the Nowy Azazel Theatre in the Warsaw ghetto.
