that Woliński received not only the report, but also Szlamek’s testimony.⁸⁰
Both these documents must have been known to the author of the extensive
BIP report “Masowe egzeku cje Żydów w pow. Kolskim” (Mass Executions of
Jews in the Koło District), Antoni Szymanowski,⁸¹ for the report contains elements
of both Oyneg Shabes reports not only on the informative level, but also
stylistically. However, it is obvious that the author used other Polish sources
as well.⁸² Szymanowski’s report is dated 25 March 1942, which suggests a very
fast exchange of materials between Ringelblum’s group and the Polish underground.
But it is not known why Szymanowski’s report was sent to the Polish
government in London as late as on 23 June 1942, together with the information
about the beginning of the deportation of Jews from the Lublin ghetto.⁸³
The ARG also included a report titled “Die Vorfälle in Kulmhof” (Events
in Chełmno), written in German. It is based on Winer’s testimony and is
structurally similar to “Wypadki chełmińskie”. The dates included in the
report suggest that it was produced more or less at the same time as the report
in Polish. It is unknown, however, why it was written and what its future fate
was. This text is not published in this volume.⁸⁴
Another report titled “Drugi etap” (The Second Stage) (document 66) was
written in Oyneg Shabes in April 1942, while the deportation of Lublin Jews
was still in progress. It warned that the Germans had begun total direct extermination
of Jews in the occupied territories. The report featured a general
description of anti-Jewish legislation at the beginning of the war, the 1941
massacres in the east (Wilno, Słonim, Hancewicze, and Równe), the deportations
“in an unknown direction” from the small towns of Wartheland and
the deportation from Lublin. The earlier report “Wypadki chełmińskie” was
also attached to that report. Local news was basically the same as that which
appeared in the Oyneg Shabes press bulletin of 12 April 1942. This is also more
