youth movements. Deported to Trawniki forced labour camp, and despite terrible
conditions he continued to deliver lectures. He was murdered at Majdanek
in the Aktion Erntefest.
STUPNICKI Shaul Yitzhak (?–1942) – journalist, Lubliner Togblat newspaper
editor, Jewish People’s Party (Folkspartei) activist, during the war in the
Warsaw ghetto he wrote for Gazeta Żydowska, committed suicide during
the summer 1942 Aktion.
SUKIENNIK B. (dates unknown) – attended the founding meeting of Oyneg
Shabes on 22 November 1940.
SUKIENNIK M. (dates unknown) – a member of the Kitchen Department
of the ŻSS.
SZALMAN Józef, Dr (1889–1942) – inspector of JDC in the Warsaw district,
then inspector of the Control Section of the ŻSS in the Warsaw ghetto.
SZERYŃSKI (earlier Szenkman or Szynkman) Józef Andrzej (1892 or 1893–
1943) – pre-war deputy inspector of the State Police, deputy province commandant
in Lublin, chief superintendent of the Jewish Order Service in the Warsaw
ghetto from December 1940. In May 1942 he was arrested for an attempt to
hide fur from confiscation. He was released and reinstated with the beginning
of the Aktion on 22 July 1942. ŻOB conducted an unsuccessful assassination
attempt on him. He committed suicide in January 1943.
SZMERLING Mieczysław (dates unknown) – Jewish Order Service functionary,
an Umschlagplatz commandant during the summer 1942 Aktion, notorious
for his cruelty.
SZRANK Mayer (dates unknown) – a refugee from Łódź in the Warsaw ghetto;
he lived on Sienna Street 45/47.
SZTAJN Rachela (Rayza) (approx. 1884–1942) – social activist, founder of the
Jewish Women’s Organisation, pre-war member of the Warsaw City Council;
in the Warsaw ghetto she was employed by the ŻSS and CENTOS.
