SICHERHEITSPOLIZEI, Sipo (German, security police) — in the Third Reich the term included the Gestapo and Kripo.

SONDERDIENST, SD (German, special service) — police formation affiliated from 1940 with the civilian administration of the General Government; its functionaries participated in requisitioning levies, murder of the population of ghettos, destruction
of partisan groups; in October 1942 it was subordinated to the Ordungspolizei (Orpo).
SONDERPOLIZEI (German, special police) — outside the regular police structure, e.g. Railway Police, Forestry Police, Post Office Protection, etc.; included also Hipo (Hilfspolizei) and SD (Sicherheitsdienst).
SS (German, abbr. Die Schutzstaffel [der NSDAP], defense echelons of NSDAP) — elite quasi-military units that served first as Hitler’s personal guard and a special security force; they took part in the Aktionen, also provided guards and staff of concentration camps and killing centers.
STAATSPOLIZEI (German, state police) — Prussian state police before 1933; afterwards it merged into Gestapo; also general term for Sipo, Kripo and Orpo.

TARBUT (Hebrew, culture) — Jewish Educational and Cultural Association, operating under the auspices of the Zionist Organization. It began its operation in Poland in 1919, promoting modern Hebrew culture and educating the youth in the national spirit.
TOPOROL (Polish, acronym for Towarzystwo Popierania Rolnictwa) — Society for Support of Agriculture, established in 1933; in the Warsaw Ghetto it organised courses for youth and used any available piece of land to grow potatoes and vegetables.
