TOTAL WAR — the term introduced by General Erich Ludendorff at the time of WWI; it means war engaged through all societal and economic means, aimed at the annihilation of the enemy or rendering it incapable of defence.
TOTENKOPF (German, lit. death’s head) — in the Third Reich, an emblem worn on the caps of SS and Waffen SS units.
TOZ (Polish, acronym for Towarzystwo Ochrony Zdrowia Ludności Żydowskiej
w Polsce) – Society for the Protection of Health of the Jewish Population in Poland,
established in 1922.
TREUHÄNDER (German, trustee, fiduciary) — During WWII in the German-occupied territories the term denoted an administrator, on behalf of the German authorities, of the individual requisitioned enterprises and the estates of liquidated institutions and associations.
TREUHANDSTELLE (German, receivership) — management of all Jewish and several Polish real estate and companies imposed by German occupation authorities; the beneficiaries were usually Germans or ethnic Poles; see also Haupttreuhandstelle.
UBIKACJA (Polish, pl. ubikacje) — toilet, latrine.
UMIASTOWSKI’S ORDER — the appeal by Colonel Roman Umiastowski, from the Staff of the Commander-in-Chief. In his radio speech on the night of 6–7 September 1939, he called on able-bodied men to leave Warsaw and go east, to create the new defence line, which proved impossible.
VOIVODE (from Polish wojewoda, head of the army) — in modern times, representative of the state as administrator of a voivodship.
VOIVODSHIP (from Polish województwo) — in modern times, administrative unit of
a highest level, successor of historical division of the Polish territory.
VOLKSDEUTSCH, Volksdeutsche (German, lit. ethnic German[s]) — person(s) of German origin living outside the borders of the German state before 1939, who declared their German nationality after the Nazi seizure of power.

WIELKOPOLSKA (Polish) — historical part of western Poland, with Poznań as its capital.
