In the margins, the Hebrew letter “ א” (ink). At the top of p. 1, in Yiddish, the
words “continuation” (on the right-hand side) and “lame” (on the left-hand side).
“Lame” is one of several cryptonyms of Mordkhe Schwartzbard. It is most probably
continuation of Doc. 15.

On 8 or 9 October, the kehillah was notified that one of its representatives was
to report to the Gestapo. The person who went was Mr Bunin²⁵³, who usually
represented the kehillah vis-à-vis the authorities. There he was told there
that it was a matter of certain information, to which Mr Bunin replied that
the kehillah secretary, Mr Nadel²⁵⁴, was available and could provide accurate
information on the subject. Mr Nadel presented himself, together with



253 Szmul Dawid Bunin (1898–?), accountant. In late 1939 left Łódź and moved to Warsaw. In August 1941 Rumkowski brought him to Łódź and appointed him school inspector. After the liquidation of the ghetto school system Bunin was assigned the task of distributing clothes to ghetto residents. In October 1941 he became the head of the Footwear and Clothing Section of the Social Welfare Department at Franciszkańska Street 30. After the Section had divided into the Footwear Section and the Clothing Section, he headed the former, which supplied the ghetto population.
