the Community paid its employees an allowance of 50 per cent of salary.
Repayment of the allowance was arranged in several monthly instalments.
The number of officials of the Community is approximately 3,000.
The strong financial situation of the Community enabled it to obtain
a two-million loan from the authorities, which is to be paid in manufactured
goods in subsequent business periods.
The introduction of our own currency had the following advantages:
1. released a considerable sum of marks from the internal market
2. enabled regulation of prices on the private market.
School system
A school system operates in the ghetto. In schools, the languages
of instruction are Polish and Yiddish. There is even a high school, which
has recently organised graduation exams and issued relevant certificates.
The authorities advise that particular emphasis be placed on English and
French for reasons of emigration.
