a significant number of Jews of Strzegowo were deported to Treblinka on
10 November 1942. That was the only deportation of Jews from this area to
Treblinka. The next transports from Mława (13 and 17 November and
10 December 1942) and the remaining ghettos in Regierungsbezirk Zichenau
were sent to Auschwitz. In November 1942, there were two transports from
Ciechanów, while the deportation of Jews from Maków Mazowiecki and Nowe
Miasto took place on 18 November 1942. The second transport from Strzegowo
left on 24 November, and the last one from Płońsk on 15 December. There were
also three transports from Nowy Dwór including approximately 36,000 people:
on 20 November, on 9 and 12 December 1942.
The late autumn marked the beginning of the last chapter of the destruction
of the Jews of northern Mazovia — a Judenjagd, a hunt for Jews, intended
to track down the survivors hiding in forests and bunkers. It concluded in
January 1945. Only a small number of Jews lived until the liberation.⁶⁷⁰

Provinz Schlesien
After its incorporation into the Third Reich, the Polish Upper Silesia and
Zagłębie Dąbrowskie became a part of the Provinz Schlesien (Province of
Silesia), with its capital in Breslau (Wrocław). On 18 January 1941, a new
German Provinz Oberschlesien (Province of Upper Silesia) was cut out from the
Provinz Schlesien. The territories that had formerly belonged to Poland were
included into two Regierungsbezirke: Oppeln (Opole) and Kattowitz (Katowice).
The Regierungsbezirk Oppeln, which was part of the Reich prior to 1939,
was enlarged by three new counties, of Zawiercie, Blachownia, and Lubliniec
(formerly in Kielce, Silesia and Częstochowa voivodships, respectively). It had
11,711 square kilometres and a population of 1,500,000. The Regierungsbezirk
Kattowitz
was established almost entirely on the territory of the annexated
Polish counties, partly from the Kielce and Kraków voivodships. In November
1939, the Regierungsbezirk Kattowitz was enlarged by the three urban Kreise,
previously in Regierungsbezirk Oppeln: Beuthen (Bytom), Hindenburg (Zabrze),
