Until 8 November I had undergone frequent inspections, but they had
always confirmed the proper treatment of workers and good management.
On 8 November the wicestarosta⁸⁹² Tiedemann, a very decent man, arrived.
Announcing that Ihr Vermögen ist ein bisschen mosaisch,⁸⁹³ he dispossessed
me, adding that although the property was no longer at my disposal, nothing
bad would happen to me and, on account of my past services, I would receive
as much as I needed for expenses. I was supposed to hand over my property
on [. . .] November. On the night of 10 to 11 November, there was a terrible
storm. A 4.30 a.m. five motorcycles arrived with 10 SS-men. — They woke me
up, told me to get dressed quickly [. . .] me and my brother [. . .] 75[?]⁸⁹⁴ praktykant⁸⁹⁵ in a well-known [. . .] [2] to the Landrat — in a carriage to the highway.
There were trucks standing on the highway. They split us up. The system
went into operation. They assured us that we would soon be shot. They mocked
us, joking that they could already smell the carcasses. Every minute they
changed their minds about the destination of our journey. They searched me
and confiscated my assets of 460[?]⁸⁹⁶ zlotys. They took us to the Gestapo in
Konin, to the [. . .] where they [. . .] to shoot us. It was 8 a.m. They threw us
into a cement cellar and took down our personal details. Every few minutes
a couple of Gestapo men carrying revolvers came in and beat us. At 10 a.m. on
11 November we were thrown into another cellar, which had just been cleared
out after 47 people had been shot. The cellar was full of water and cement.
We sat in this cellar till the 13th without food, water, or the possibility of
