next morning they chased us out of the flats and escorted us to Legionowo,
15 km away. We were so tired from the events of the previous 24 hours that
many of us fainted during the march, and most of us discarded our luggage
and packages, as we were too weak [14] to carry them. In addition, the German
escort was rushing us with blows and warning shots, and during the odd
five-minute stops, they did not let the Poles who wished to help us give us
even a drop of water.
Barely alive, we arrived in Legionowo, where we were released. The wealthy,
at their own expense, and the poor, at the expense of the Legionowo community,
left the town, heading mostly for Warsaw.
The next day, the rest, that is, that 25 per cent who had failed to appear
on the market square on 18 November, were treated the same as we had been,
with one small difference: that they were beaten in Pomiechówek, searched
carefully, and had all their valuables, money, and belongings taken away
from them.
Now, there are a few Jewish families living in Sierpc. These are those
Jews who had the courage to return after the resettlement. They are faring
well. The Germans do not bother them, they have gainful employment [15]
on work details and they get by.

In late September, about 200 Jews were captured and brought to the
Landratsamt. While some of them were working, the rest were doing punitive
exercises, while being beaten until they bled. As they were leaving, they
had to walk in between two rows of officers (among them a few high-ranking
officers!). Armed with truncheons, the Germans hit the poor wretches only
on their heads. Having received stronger blows, two of the Jews fainted and
collapsed at the feet of their tormentors, who started to kick them and toss
them up with their feet; but two braver Jews turned and pulled them away,
exposing themselves to additional blows.
