shoot. [3] People rushed out of the carriages in terror, fell to the ground, literally
crawled on all fours, losing babies a few weeks or a few months old
who fell from their pillows, as well as other things. Family members lost
each other. No one knew where they were. They crawled to the table and put
everything they had left on it. Then everyone was stood in line, to be taken
on foot to Nowy Dwór.
People without food or sleep, humiliated, beaten, tearful, desperate,
pressed together, silent because talking was forbidden, with only a sigh or
a groan escaping from them from time to time. And continuous threats from
the murderers: we’ll drive you into the Vistula or shoot you. Thus we walked
on, in fear and terror, until at last we got to Nowy Dwór. There they released
us and told us that no one was allowed to go back, only on to Warsaw. We
spent the night in the street, and in the morning, hungry and penniless, we
arrived in Warsaw, where a new chapter of pain and suffering began...
